Head Start Read for the Record Event - November 7, 2019

Read for the Record brings together millions of people each year in classrooms, libraries, community centers, and homes across the US. This annual campaign was launched over a decade ago to highlight the importance of building early literacy and language skills for EVERY child, so that all children have the opportunity to enter kindergarten prepared to succeed. Today, Thursday, November 7th at 10 a.m. Head Start joined the fun and pledge to Read for the Record.

This years book of choice was, Thank You, Omu! which tells the story of a generous elderly woman who makes a fantastic pot of thick red stew. The scent from her stew travels all throughout her neighborhood and brings all of her community members over to her home for a taste. By the end, she shares a lovely feast with her neighbors where everyone contributes to the meal.
We want to send out a special thank you to those who came out to demonstrate to our Head Start children the love for and the importance of reading. Some of our participants included CAA President/CEO, Mark Lawson, U.S. Congressman Steve Chabot, CAA Board Members Chandra Mathews and Russell Mack, CAA Staff, local police officers and community leaders.
