WHY HEAD START? by CAA Head Start Teacher Tynetta Hurdle

Maya Smith, a Head Start Teaching Assistant at Theodore M. Berry Children & Family Learning Center, discusses WHY HEAD START? for Head Start Awareness Month (October):

"Head Start means to me a jump start to prepare children and families for what the school system has to offer. Head Start is a great approach to getting your child and your families to handle the commitment that school actually requires from families: The in-home learning, the after school programs, the extra-curricular activities. So Head Start pretty much gets the families in gear to what they can expect throughout elementary, throughout middle school, and throughout high school...and possibly college."
