HEAD START PARENTS REACH OUT TO LAWMAKERS TO PROTEST SEQUESTRATION

Downtown Cincinnati 3/15/2013 -

With children and strollers in tow, Cincinnati Head Start parents made an emotional appeal to Congressional staff in downtown Cincinnati on Friday. Parents passionate about the program are making sure Congressional staffers get the message: the sequester cuts are hitting hard and hurting families. About 400 children in Cincinnati and Hamilton County could be cut and important services would be lost.  Parents along with Head Start director Verline Dotson visited the offices of Congressman Steve Chabot, Rob Portman and Sherrod Brown.  The visits were part of a nation side "Stroll-In" day to protest the massive cuts. Approximately 10,000 teacher jobs, 70,000 children in Head Start and 7,200 special education staff are on the chopping block nationwide.
