CAA President's Guest Column on Head Start in the Enquirer

If Washington has taught us anything, it’s that some of  President Obama’s second-term goals laid out in his State of the Union speech will surely die a vitriolic death on the House floor as they are reduced from political debate to partisan debris. Other items, hopefully, will muster the needed support on Capitol Hill to be signed into law. One, in particular, that I hope prevails is the president’s call to create a federal-state partnership to ensure all children from low- to moderate-income families receive high quality preschool education. As the president and CEO of the Community Action Agency (CAA), which administers Head Start in Hamilton County, early childhood education is near and dear to my heart as it is to all parents who want their children to succeed academically and in life.

Kindergarden Transition Fair




The transition to Kindergarten is one of the most significant transitions that a young child experiences and lays the foundation for future success in school. A smooth transition to kindergarten is a shared responsibility among many individuals and institutions including children, families, teachers, schools and the community. Theodore M. Berry and the Life Learning Center Head Start centers invited Elementary schools to share information with families concerning transitioning into Kindergarten.

Therefore, the Parent Engagement framework believes that parents, schools, families, and communities working together can create meaningful partnerships that ultimately lead to significant gains across the board in student achievement.
